  • Notes
    • According to the October 1991 McDonough county (Illinois) Genealogical Society News Quarterly, from the Macomb Journal, 17 January 1884: "Martin V. Scudder died Tuesday night at Industry, after a lingering illness. So decayed became the bone of one leg, that two or three days before he died, while the attendants were turning him in bed his leg was broken, although the members was moved very carefully. Mr. Scudder came to this locality from Ohio in 1854 when he was about 16 years old. He settled with his parents in the vicinity of Industry. He was married twice, the last time to Miss Bridges, and leaves a number of children. He was about 45 years of age."

During the Civil War, Martin served with Company I, 78th Illinois Infantry. This Regiment was organized at Quincy, Illinois, and mustered into service September 1, 1862. That is when Martin enlisted. He was discharged for disability 30 June 1863.
