  • Notes
    • In 1884. Isaac incorporated the I. E. Merritt Machinery Company, with himself as president, and George W Mann as secretary. In 1894 the stone machine shop and foundry on Market Street, where the company operated, were destroyed by fire. There was little left except the good will of the business, to which the sons of Isaac, Louis G and Herbert M Merritt. succeeded as a partnership. In 1901 it was again incorporated, this time as the Merritt Manufacturing Company. In that year the new site on Michigan street was purchased and the first building erected. This company traces its birth back to the year 1851 and has been a continous customer of the Niagara County National Bank since 1865, a period of 56 years.

The president of the company at the time of this article was Ericsson H Merritt, and the secretary, Seymour G Neubecker. On Jan. 1, 1920, the Merritt brothers withdrew from its board of directors and formed an engineering and selling organization for the purpose of supplying complete machinery equipment to the increasing number of veneer and plywood plants. Besides taking the output of the Merritt Manuf. Co. the Merritt Engineering and Sales Co., is supplying hydraulic persses, glue-room machinery, motors. etc.
