  • Notes
    • Maude went to India in 1919, the centenary of her great grandfather's going to Ceylon. She took charge of the Girls' School in Ranipet that taught Indian Christian girls who came in from the villages as boarders. She managed this school for ten years.

She and her husband, Galen, lived on the Scudder Memorial Hospital compound, not far from the school. In 1929, when her sister, Nelle, came to take over the management of the Girls' School, Maude handed over the responsibility of the school, but remained as advisor.

Maude and her sister, Nelle, and their children were evacuated from India during World War II and went to California to live with their other sister, Gertrude Bailey. After Galen's retirement from mission work in 1954, she and Galen moved to Stockton, California. In 1966, because of Galen's poor health, they went to Pilgrim Place, Claremont, California, a retirement home for missionaries. Maude remained there after Galen's death in 1967.
